What is OBDII and how to get it working on a Yamaha R6 motorcycle

edited February 2017 in RaceChrono for Android
Hello

I am a newbie to RaceChrono Pro. I recently bought it to overlay lap times, speed, braking, throttle and RPM onto my GoPro movies. After reading numerous posts I am quite confused. So far I can only see lap times, track position and speed. I have bought:

- Android HTC One smart phone
- Qstarz BT-Q818 66-Channel Bluetooth GPS Receiver
– RaceChrono Pro version

I have seen on ebay OBDII Bluetooth devices for under $10. Is this what I need to have RaceChrono show RPMs? If so how do I install it to my bike? Does the OBDII device need a cable to connect to my bike?

Thanks

  • Hi,

OBD-II is an diagnostic port required by law for cars (at least inside EU and USA). On motorcycles it is not required and therefore it is usually missing. I've heard at least some Triumph bikes have it, but at most cases you can expect it to be missing.

So do not buy OBD-II reader before you confirm you have a port for it.
