unable to synchronize to GoPro videos with GPS data

Intermittently, I encounter GoPro video files that RaceChrono is unable to synchronize to (even though other files from the same camera work without issue). Using GoPro's gpmf-parser library, I've traced the problem to the GPS data. If the GoPro has only been powered up shortly before the video recording starts (and/or the sky is partially obscured with buildings), there is not a GPS fix at the very first video frame. A GPS fix is achieved later in the file, but apparently too late in the file for RaceChrono to recognize it.

It would be desirable if RaceChrono would invest extra effort to scan further ahead in the file if the data shows a fix hasn't yet been achieved.

  • If the above fix is too much of an ask, what about a "Link Before..." option in addition to the existing "Link After..." in the video menu? Note this is less ideal, since would only work if the video recording was long enough to span multiple files, but RaceChrono's synchronization code should be satisfied by the GPS lock in the later file, and then the earlier file could be added with "Link Before..." similar to how later video files are added with "Link After..."
