Tutorial: How to use Quik app to import GoPro files to RaceChrono Pro (iPhone example)

Many RaceChrono Pro users have asked about how to properly import their of GoPro files through the GoPro’s Quik app. The Quik app works great for downloading files, but it can be used in several ways. Some of the ways may result in downscaled and compressed video files, which we are trying to avoid here. Our recommendation is to download your files first, which will add them to the ‘Media / App’ screen of the Quik app, and then import the files through the Photos app.

1. Downloading your files

Select ‘View media’
Select your video to import
Tap the ‘Download’ icon
Video starts downloading
Open the Media screen

2a. Importing the downloaded files through the Photos app

Once the video has downloaded, go to the ‘Media / App’ screen of the Quik app. Then save the video files to the Photos app, and add to the Import screen in RaceChrono Pro. This is the preferred method as it preserves the original file names.

Open your video
Click the ‘Share’ button on top
Select ‘Save to Photos’
Your file is now saved to the Photos app
Go to RaceChrono Pro and select ‘Import’ from main screen top menu, and then click ‘+ Photos app’
Select your video file from the Photos app video picker that appears. Notice that you can select more than one file at once.
Your video file is now ready to import. If your GoPro recording has multiple chapters, and your goal is to import the ‘GoPro sensor data’ as a new session, you should add them all here before starting the import. If you’re importing the files as ‘Raw videos’, you can also import them one by one.

2b. Importing the files directly from the Quik app

Alternatively you can import your GoPro directly from the GoPro Quik app. The filenames will not be preserved with this method.

Open your video
Click the ‘Share’ button on top
Select ‘Share Media’
Click the ‘three dots’ menu button at the bottom
Select ‘RaceChrono’ from the sharing panel. If it’s not in the list, please see the next screenshot.
The ‘RaceChrono’ option may be behind the ‘More’ button
Your file is now ready to import. If your GoPro recording has multiple chapters, and your goal is to import the ‘GoPro sensor data’ as a new session, you should add them all here before starting the import. If you’re importing the files as ‘Raw videos’, you can also import them one by one. Just repeat the process to add multiple files to the import screen, before hitting the ‘Start’ button.
